Botox, Photo facial and vampire facials: some queries answered by Dr. Sirisha

Hi Girls!!
If you remember, I posted about the Skin clinic and the services offered by it. The Skin Centre is a leading skin treatment consultancy located in the heart of South Delhi is offering unique, scientific skin care therapies to help you rejuvenate and revitalize your appearance. With over 8 years of expertise in the United Kingdom, Dr Sirisha Singh founded the Skin Center in 2008. The Skin Centre offers consultation for your skin type which helps you design a simple home-based regime for effective skin care to ward of all problems.

1.  What actually is botox and are there any side effects?

Botox is botulinum toxin. It is a purified protein which when injected into specific muscles can cause relaxation of the muscles.  Very small quantities of the protein are injected into those muscles of the face which are responsible for facial expression. The muscles then relax resulting in disappearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. Since very small quantities are used, it is generally safe especially when used by doctors who inject regularly. The problem is that the muscles of the face are very small and very close to each other. If injected into the wrong muscle or if some amount of the protein diffuses into a surrounding muscle, there may be slight drooping of the eyelid which could last for 2-3 weeks. There is a very slight risk of a bruise developing at the injection site. Apart from these, it is very safe. It has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 20 years and no long term problems have been reported to date.

2.  For how many days the results for photo facial will last ?

Photo-facial reverses the photo-damage to the skin. Photo-damage is the damage to the skin due to UV light in the atmosphere. It therefore reduces the tan, reduces blemishes ( red and black) on the skin and also causes some tightening of the skin due to production of new collagen (the elastic tissue of the skin).  Some beneficial effects like reduction in tan last for 3-4 weeks, longer if one uses a sunblock. The effects like reduction in blemishes (red and black) on the skin and tightening of the skin are permanent.

3.  Do we have to avoid the sun after such photo facials?

We definitely recommend using a sunscreen regularly after the photo-facial. The use of sunscreen is recommended in daily life for everyone. The photo-facial can increase the damaging effects of UV light on the skin. We therefore recommend that it should not be done prior to going on a vacation involving sun exposure (beach vacation). It is however safe to get it done during regular daily life as long as one uses a sunscreen regularly following the procedure.

4.  What's the average cost of photo facials and vampire facials in India?

The equipment used for photo-facial is of varied quality. It is available for Rs 1000-Rs 8000 per session for the full face. Vampire facial generally costs Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 for the full face.
