DIY Make your own Custom Lipstick Color at Home

Hello my Friends/readers!

I am a complete DIY kind of person and like to DIY for not only beauty but accessories, crafts, clothing too as it brings a sheer joy of doing or making something. I have been doing one or the other thing since childhood and would never ever stop till the time I have time and patience. :D

I wanted to share this easy tutorial on how to make your own custom lip color today, which isn’t something that needs a tutorial even but I wanted to show what I made. Yippie.:D

I have always loved red lipsticks and have never had hesitations wearing red but sometimes I wanted a color that should be as bold as red and what else can be better than a bright pink color.
I had this old VOV lipstick in cool pink color that I have used only a couple of times and then at times applied it and wiped it off, don’t know how many times? :D as it’s a very bright and neony shade on my lips!

So, I thought of using this color to tone down a red color and the red I chose is Inglot Freedom system lipstick no63. I actually have 2 reds from Inglot (yup! I was an online shopping victim too who end up buying the same shades with different nos 63 and 82).
I had this Oriflame very me duo eyeshadow which I dropped once due to which the shadow was all broken so, I transferred the shadow in another container and used this sleek, flip top case as a new home for my new lipcolor! :D

I chopped off half of the pink lipstick and around half the part of the red lipstick. That means the quantity of the lighter shade was double than the darker shade as more of the lighter shade is required to tone down the darker shade and to get my desired shade!

Now, in this glass bowl I put both of them and put it in the Microwave to melt and mix them thoroughly. This how it looks in the semi molten state. Looks yummy!!

And then I put it back in the microwave to melt and mix it further and poured it into this empty container. It didn’t take long to settle and hardened and mine was like solidified in a minute.
And My custom lip color is Ready! :D

I can use it like a stain or like a lipstick in full intensity. It looks a tad different on my lips though.

I would name this shade as "Perky Pink"
I can keep it in my clutch where lipsticks can’t fit, except for the freedom system refills of course!!
I hope you liked the post and this new shade too.

  21. Hi Niesha. I am a big fan of your blog and read it quite regularly. Needless to say I love it!!! :) just a small query. Won't microwaving the lipsticks make any of the chemical compositions toxic? Microwaving infact is supposed to change food properties too. So what would be the impact on the lipsticks? Please share your views. The DIY tutorial is fantastic. Just this small doubt if u could plzzzzzz clear! Thanks a ton in advance :)... Anupama

    1. Hi Anupama, Glad to know that you do read and like my blog.:)
Even I have heard that microwave changes properties but still we use it everyday.:) however, in this case, the lipstick can be melted in a big serving spoon or a ladle over the flame and in fact this will be easier as we can see when it melts and easier to transfer the mixture into the pan/pot.
Thank you so much for liking.:)
