Are you washing your face the right way?

Are you washing your face the right way?

Skin care starts with cleansing, washing, getting rid of the dirt and oil whatever you say. Cleansing is undoubtedly is the first step in any skin care regimen. Most people especially guys, think that they have to literally rub the cleansers hard on their face to clean their skin and continue doing it for a couple of minutes. Result is an over dried skin, which we try to balance with the moisturizers. So, what actually clean skin means? Your skin needn't to be dry after you wash or if the cleanser that does that to you, think about changing it.
Doing cleansing the wrong way, can actually damage the skin.
Weather you use a foaming cleanser or cream cleanser, it should depends on your skin type.
If you have oily or combination skin, go for a cleanser that is foaming or gel formula but doesn’t dry out the skin. Cleansers with salicylic acid like Ponds pimple control, Neutrogena can be good options due to salicylic acid in them that helps prevent pimples.

For dry skin, cream based cleansers are most suitable as while cleansing your face, some essential oils are also stripped off and dry skin being already dry can be balanced out with cream cleansers. They prevents further dryness. You can try Dove face wash or the Dove cleansing bars as well. Lakme Nourishing low face wash can also be a good option.

For very sensitive skin, extra care should be taken both while cleansing and choosing a cleanser. Sensitive skin can get red soon or even rashes can be seen. Out of the cleansers that I have tried so far Cetaphil cleansing lotion is one such product that I will recommend to the sensitive skinned people. It doesn’t produce lather or anything fancy but like a cleansing milk you wash your face. It is gentle and non greasy. You can also wipe your face or just wash it off.
Products with high fragrance can irritate the skin as when fragrance/parfum is added to the formula to mask any smell of the chemicals added. It’s better to go for a cleanser that is fragrance free.

Washing your face twice a day is best for all skin types. For very oily skin you can wash off with plain water in between rather than using the cleanser, if your face isn’t dirty by that time.
The best way to wash your face is to gently massage the product on to your face for 30- 40 seconds and then rinse off. Its better to use Luke warm water rather than too hot or too cold water.

Never rub your face with towel to make it dry after rinsing, gently pat and water will be absorbed. Some dampness would be there that can be air dried in a couple of minutes only.

So, next time you go near the basin, check are you washing your face the right way?
